Dubai Duty Free Unveils New Logo for the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships
- New logo revealed ahead of the Middle East’s premier tennis tournament -
Dubai, UAE, January 9th, 2008: The Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships today unveiled a dynamic new logo to welcome the addition of Barclays as the title sponsor of one of the world’s top tennis events.
Inspired by the falcon, a traditional symbol of the UAE, the logo heralds an exciting new period for the award-winning tournament which late last year signed a multi-million dollar, three year agreement with Barclays.
Set on a crisp white background, the dominant appearance of the tennis ball has been enhanced with stylish fonts, vivid colours and conspicuous design which has been further refined by the subtle use of the falcon. The result is a contemporary logo that is reflective of tradition yet portrays modernity, energy and the international stature of the event.
Revealing the logo at the Dubai Tennis Stadium, Colm McLoughlin, Managing Director of Dubai Duty Free, said: “With the introduction of a title sponsor, we felt the need to completely revamp the corporate identity of the tournament and this will be evident not only in the logo, but in all the merchandise and collateral produced for the tournament.”
“We think that the new logo, which reflects the sport as well as the heritage of Dubai, is fresh and vibrant and ties in perfectly with the tournament which this year features a stellar line-up of the best tennis players in the world.”
Barclays partnership with the Dubai Tennis Championships is their first foray into professional tennis sponsorship globally and is seen as a major endorsement of the Dubai Duty Free-run tournament which began in 1993.
Ahmed Khizer Khan, CEO of Barclays Global Retail and Commercial Banking Emerging Markets, said: “We join Dubai Duty Free in celebrating the launch of a new tournament logo and Corporate Identity. We are very excited about this year’s tournament and our role as Title Sponsors and we are looking forward to a fantastic two weeks of tennis.”
The Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships last year was named ‘Tournament of the Year’ by the ATP for the fourth consecutive time and has received 13 ATP/WTA awards.
The event has seen superstars such as Boris Becker, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andre Agassi, Maria Sharapova and Venus and Serena Williams all grace centre court at the Dubai Tennis Stadium in recent years.
Two weeks of star-studded competition begins on February 25th with the Tier II Sony Ericsson WTA Tour tournament and is followed by the ATP International Series Gold event from March 3rd to 8th.
