Hantuchova Treated to the Best in Arabian Hospitality
Dubai, UAE, February 18th, 2007: Tennis star Daniela Hantuchova, who is in Dubai for the Dubai Duty Free Women’s Open, has experienced Arabian culture at its very finest.
The Slovakian beauty was treated to an abra ride around the Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai’s Arabian-themed resort, before enjoying the opportunity to see an exquisitely adorned Arabian thoroughbred horse name ‘Labeeb’.
Hantuchova, who is ranked 18 on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, learnt about the significant role of the Arabian horse to the United Arab Emirate’s culture and enjoyed an impressive performance of the horse’s flawless skills and control.
“The horse is just magnificent,” Hantuchova said.
“I used to ride when I was younger and it’s something I’d love to do again when I finish my tennis especially after this, the horse is so beautiful.”
Following the display by Labeeb, Daniela enjoyed a tour of the Madinat resort including a visit to one of the Dar Al Masyf Arabic-style summer houses, which with their shaded courtyards and traditional design, are reminiscent of a time gone by. In keeping with the setting, Daniela wore a traditional Arabic dress for the occasion.
Commenting on her time in Dubai, Daniela said: “I love Dubai, the tournament is so well organised, and it’s a lot of fun. This is my first time here at Madinat Jumeirah … this place is breathtaking.”
Play begins at the Dubai Tennis Stadium on Monday with defending champion Justine Henin and Amelie Mauresmo headlining the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour event, and continues on 26th February when Spain’s Rafael Nadal begins his title defence alongside three-time former champion Roger Federer, Marcos Baghdatis and teenage star Novak Djokovic.
The Dubai Tennis Championships, now in its 15th year with the men’s event and seventh with the women’s event, is owned and organised by Dubai Duty Free and takes place under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
